The earthquake was recorded at 9:21 a.m. Friday off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu.

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.
